I will always remember walking through lit trees, bundled up in the middle of December while sipping hot chocolate. There is nothing better and nothing I look forward to more than browsing all the wonderful Christmas lights while drinking hot chocolate.

The only bummer about it, is hot chocolate often doesn't make me feel great, probably because it's milk which is good, and then sugar with a little chocolate causing me to crash. That is where this protein hot chocolate comes in!

This protein hot chocolate is packed with 22 grams of protein and is just as easy to make as regular hot chocolate! So let's get cozy!

Ingredients and Substitutions

Protein Hot Chocolate Recipe (2)

All substitution options are a 1:1 substitution unless noted otherwise.

Flax Milk plus Protein: We love this plant-based milk for its creamy texture and higher protein content. It makes for a creamy protein drink the whole family will love!

Substitutions: However, any milk of choice can be used! Good alternatives include unsweetened almond milk, canned coconut milk, or cow's milk.

Chocolate Plant-Based Protein Powder:This is how we get that protein and chocolatey flavor! You could even add a little more cocoa powder if you're feeling wild!

Substitutions: Any chocolate protein powder can be used, such as whey protein powder, pea protein, soy protein, etc. If using vanilla protein powder, add 1.5 tablespoon cocoa powder or hot chocolate mix, or 2 tablespoon chocolate syrup.

Additions: Adding some optional toppings is a great way to add even more fun to this hot beverage! Some optional topping ideas include whipped cream, sprinkles, marshmallows, and any other ideas your sweet tooth can think of. Additions can make this hot protein shake bring out flavors in different ways. Additions include a drop of vanilla extract, cacao powder, heavy cream, and extra protein powder, (be careful, it'll get chunky if you add too much).

How to Make This - Step by Step

Step one: Heat milk in jar for 2 minutes in the microwave

Step two: Add protein powder to milk, close jar and shake vigorously

Step three: Pour into mugs and enjoy!
